The 5R Protocol That’s Helping People Reverse Disease Naturally

Many chronic health conditions—such as IBS, asthma, and autoimmune disorders—can be traced back to imbalances in the gut. Disruptions to the microbiome caused by antibiotics, poor diet, food sensitivities, and environmental exposures can lead to inflammation, malabsorption, and increased intestinal permeability (leaky gut). Addressing gut health through a structured Functional Medicine approach called the 5R’s of gut repair—removing harmful triggers, replacing missing digestive factors, reinoculating with beneficial bacteria, repairing the gut lining, and rebalancing lifestyle factors—can restore balance and improve systemic health. In this episode, I discuss, along with Dr. Elizabeth Boham and Raja Dhir, the Functional Medicine approach to healing the gut and why the gut is at the center of imbalances in the body, including many health conditions. Dr. Elizabeth Boham is Board Certified in Family Medicine from Albany Medical School, and she is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and the Medical Director of The UltraWellness Center. Dr. Boham lectures on a variety of topics, including Women’s Health and Breast Cancer Prevention, insulin resistance, heart health, weight control and allergies. She is on the faculty for the Institute for Functional Medicine. Raja Dhir is the co-founder and co-CEO of Seed Health, a microbiome science company developing innovative probiotics and living medicines to advance human and planetary health. He specializes in translating cutting-edge microbial research into impactful products and leads Seed Health’s academic collaborations with institutions such as MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Caltech, and the NIH. Raja co-chairs Seed’s Scientific Board alongside Dr. Jacques Ravel, guiding research across microbiology, immunology, genetics, and ecology. He also directs LUCA Biologics, a company focused on the vaginal microbiome and women's health, and oversees SeedLabs, which drives environmental initiatives. Through this wo...

Why Your Skin Is Begging You to Heal Your Gut First

Skin issues like acne, eczema, and rosacea are deeply connected to internal imbalances, especially those originating in the gut. It is important to explore diet—particularly sugar, refined carbs, and dairy—because it can drive inflammation, insulin resistance, and hormonal disruption, all of which contribute to poor skin health. Topical treatments and antibiotics may provide short-term relief, but they often disrupt the skin and gut microbiome, worsening conditions over time. A Functional Medicine approach focuses on restoring gut balance, identifying food sensitivities, and supporting detoxification pathways with nutrient-dense foods, supplements, and lifestyle practices. Addressing the root causes not only improves skin but also promotes systemic healing and resilience. In this episode, I speak with three of our doctors at The UltraWellness Center—Dr. Elizabeth Boham, Dr. Cindy Geyer, and Dr. Todd LePine—about why, when it comes to skin care, we need to look inside the body first. Dr. Cindy Geyer received her bachelor of science and her doctor of medicine degrees, with honors, from the Ohio State University. She completed residency in internal medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. and is triple board certified in internal medicine, integrative medicine and lifestyle medicine. Dr. Todd LePine graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, specializing in Integrative Functional Medicine. Why You Know What to Do, But Still Don’t Do It

Lasting change begins with a shift in both mindset and behavior. Many people remain stuck in self-defeating patterns because of unconscious narratives, emotional triggers, and a disconnection from their body’s inner wisdom. Change isn’t just about willpower or information—it’s about learning to rewire the brain through small, intentional actions that generate powerful emotional feedback loops. Identity transformation happens not through repetition, but through experiences that create a sense of success. In a world flooded with conflicting advice and manipulative marketing, reclaiming agency requires tuning into your own signals, building self-trust, and recognizing that behavior change is a design challenge—not a character flaw. Empowerment comes from realizing that the ability to change is built into who we are as humans. In this episode, I speak with Tom Bilyeu, Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, and Dr. BJ Fogg about cracking the nut of behavior change. Tom Bilyeu is a filmmaker and serial entrepreneur best known as the co-founder of Quest Nutrition, a billion-dollar company built to combat metabolic disease through value-driven innovation. After nearly a decade of chasing financial success and feeling unfulfilled, he realized the importance of loving the struggle itself. This insight led him and his partners to shift focus from profit to purpose. Quest quickly became the second fastest-growing company in North America, according to Inc. Magazine. After achieving significant personal wealth, Tom turned to the other global crisis he saw—disempowering mindsets. To address this, he co-founded Impact Theory, a media studio with his wife, Lisa Bilyeu. Their mission is to scale mindset transformation by producing empowering content that shifts the cultural subconscious. Just as Disney built the most magical place on Earth, the Bilyeus aim to build the most empowering one. Dr. Rangan Chatterjee is regarded as one of the most influential doctors in the UK. How to Choose the Right Supplements (and Avoid the Wrong Ones)

With so many supplements on the market, how do you know what’s actually worth taking—and what’s just a waste of money? In this episode of The Dr. Hyman Show, I sit down with Steve Martocci, a tech entrepreneur who’s applying smart tools and real data to help people finally make sense of their supplements. We talk about why most people still aren’t getting the nutrients they need—even if they’re taking vitamins—and how Steve’s new platform, SuppCo, is making it easier to figure out what to take, what to skip, and what to trust. You’ll learn: • Why 70% of people are still low in at least one important nutrient (and how that affects your energy, mood, sleep, and more) • The truth about getting everything you need from food (and why that’s harder than it sounds) • How to spot low-quality supplements and avoid harmful fillers and contaminants • Why your doctor may not know how supplements interact with your medications • How to SuppCo’s app can help you track all your supplements, avoid taking too much of certain nutrients, and personalize your health routine (BTW, when you download the SuppCo app, you can view my personal supplement Stack and Protocols). If you take supplements—or are thinking about it—this episode will help you do it smarter, safer, and more effectively. The Brain-Body Fix: How Magnesium, Omega-3s, & Vitamin D Transform Your Health

Up to 80% of people may be living with insufficient levels of vitamin D, magnesium, and omega-3 fatty acids—three essential nutrients involved in critical functions like immune defense, cardiovascular health, mood regulation, and brain function. Modern lifestyles—marked by nutrient-poor diets, low sun exposure, chronic stress, and overuse of medications—disrupt the body’s ability to absorb and maintain these key nutrients. Deficiencies often go undiagnosed due to outdated testing, yet they’re strongly linked to conditions like depression, fatigue, diabetes, and heart disease. In this episode, I talk about, along with Andrew Huberman, how modern lifestyles and diets lead to widespread nutrient deficiencies and chronic disease—and how targeted nutrition and lifestyle changes can restore optimal health. Dr. Andrew Huberman is a neuroscientist and tenured Professor in the Department of Neurobiology at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He has made numerous important contributions to the fields of brain development, brain function, and neural plasticity, which is the ability of our nervous system to rewire and learn new behaviors, skills, and cognitive functioning. Dr. Huberman is a McKnight Foundation and Pew Foundation Fellow and was awarded the Cogan Award in 2017, which is given to the scientist making the largest discoveries in the study of vision. His lab’s most recent work focuses on the influence of vision and respiration on human performance and brain states such as fear and courage. Work from the Huberman Laboratory at Stanford University School of Medicine has been published in top journals including Nature, Science, and Cell and has been featured in TIME, BBC, Scientific American, Discover, and other top media outlets. Rethinking Cholesterol, Keto, and Cardiovascular Risk with Nick Norowitz

Who in the world would try to lower their cholesterol by eating an entire sleeve of Oreos every day for a month? Meet Nick Norwitz, PhD, an Oxford graduate and Harvard medical student who did just that—in an effort to test a hypothesis about cholesterol and metabolic health. After reversing a serious inflammatory condition with a ketogenic diet, Nick saw his LDL cholesterol spike. Instead of panicking, he turned to research—and self-experimentation—to better understand what those numbers really meant. In this episode of The Dr. Hyman Show, we explore: • The health crisis that led Nick to a ketogenic diet • Why his LDL cholesterol jumped—and what questions it raised • The Oreo experiment and what it did (and didn’t) reveal • The nuance around LDL, metabolic health, and cardiovascular risk • What the science—and Nick’s own experience—suggests about meat, veganism, and finding a diet that works Check out the episode to hear this fascinating conversation. Reversing Diabetes Naturally: The Science Big Medicine Ignored

There has been a fundamental shift in understanding metabolic health and chronic disease, particularly Type 2 diabetes, challenging long-standing dietary dogma by emphasizing that insulin resistance is largely driven by overconsumption of refined carbohydrates, not dietary fat or red meat. While highlighting the success of carbohydrate restriction and ketogenic approaches, nutrition is being seen as a powerful tool for reversing diabetes—often more effective and sustainable than conventional medication. The implications are far-reaching, not only for individual health outcomes, but also for reshaping public health strategies in addressing today’s chronic disease epidemic. In this episode, I speak with Gary Taubes, Sami Inkinen, and Dr. Greeshma Shetty about an approach to treating Type 2 Diabetes that works. I also discuss how red meat is not to blame, but we should be looking at high sugar and starch diets. Gary Taubes is an award-winning science and health journalist, and co-founder and director of the Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI). He is the author of The Case Against Sugar, Why We Get Fat, Good Calories, Bad Calories, and, most recently, The Case for Keto. Gary is a former staff writer for Discover and correspondent for Science. He has written three cover articles on nutrition and health for The New York Times Magazine, and his writing has also appeared in The Atlantic, Esquire, and numerous "best of" anthologies, including The Best of the Best American Science Writing (2010). He has received three Science in Society Journalism Awards from the National Association of Science Writers, and is also the recipient of a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award in Health Policy Research. He lives in Oakland, CA. Sami Inkinen is the CEO and Co-Founder of Virta Health, a pioneer in reversing diseases like obesity and type 2 diabetes through a nutrition-first approach. Sleep is not just a luxury—it’s a foundational pillar of health that influences nearly every aspect of our well-being. Sleep deprivation doesn’t just cause fatigue; it disrupts hormones, drives inflammation, damages metabolism, and accelerates aging. From the gut microbiome to stress hormones like cortisol, sleep is deeply intertwined with brain, immune, and metabolic health. Yet our modern world—filled with late-night screens, ultra-processed foods, and chronic stress—works against quality rest. In this episode, I discuss, along with Dr. Matt Walker and Shawn Stevenson, why we need to address sleep as a core health priority to unlock healing, prevention of chronic disease, and renewed vitality. Matthew Walker earned his PhD in neuroscience from the Medical Research Council in the UK, and subsequently became a Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. He is currently a Professor of Neuroscience and Psychology at the University of California, Berkeley, and director of the Center for Human Sleep Science. In our conversation, she explains: Why she believes Kellogg’s and other U.S. brands aren’t doing enough to protect American consumers. In today’s episode, I’m joined by Dr. Elizabeth Boham and Dr. Yousef Elyaman to talk about a condition that’s quietly becoming one of the biggest threats to our health: fatty liver disease—now renamed Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD). It’s not just a liver issue. It’s deeply connected to heart disease, cancer, infertility, type 2 diabetes, dementia, and even hormone dysfunction. The most alarming part is it’s often missed in traditional medicine because there’s no easy drug to prescribe. We break down: The real root causes—from sugar and starch overload to gut imbalances, toxins, alcohol, and chronic inflammation The surprising early warning signs your body might be giving you Why standard labs often miss it, and the tests you actually need The step-by-step functional medicine approach to reverse fatty liver naturally—using targeted nutrition, lifestyle upgrades, and proven supplements I also share the latest science on inflammation, why it’s the common thread between fatty liver and nearly every chronic disease, and how to calm it down at the root. From Inflammation to Conception: Solving the Fertility Puzzle

Fertility challenges are increasingly linked to lifestyle and environmental factors that go far beyond reproductive organs. Emerging science reveals that metabolic health, inflammation, diet, and exposure to environmental toxins all play a profound role in hormonal balance, egg and sperm quality, and even early embryo development. Key drivers of dysfunction—such as ultra-processed food, insulin resistance, gut imbalances, and mitochondrial damage—are rarely addressed in conventional fertility care, despite their deep impact. Paying attention to these overlooked root causes offers not only a powerful path to improving fertility but also the foundation for lifelong health in both parents and their future children. In this episode, I discuss, along with Kelly LeVeque, what we can do to improve our fertility, which ultimately impacts the future health of our children. Kelly LeVeque is a holistic nutritionist, celebrity health coach, the best-selling author of Body Love and Body Love Every Day, and most importantly, mom of three little boys. The Unexpected Dolphin Discovery That May Hold the Key to Longevity | Dr. Stephanie Venn-Watson

What if the key to aging well had been hiding in plain sight—inside our cells, our food, and even… dolphins? That’s exactly what Stephanie Venn-Watson, DVM, a veterinary epidemiologist, discovered while studying dolphins in the U.S. Navy’s marine mammal program. She found that some dolphins were aging significantly slower than others, leading to the discovery of C15:0—a newly recognized essential fatty acid that supports cellular health, fights inflammation, and may even slow the aging process. In this episode of The Dr. Hyman Show, we dive into: How studying dolphins led to the discovery of C15:0 as the first essential fatty acid found in 90 years. Why a deficiency in this nutrient could be accelerating aging and chronic disease. How C15:0 strengthens cell membranes, reduces inflammation, and promotes longevity. The connection between diet, metabolic health, and optimal aging. What you can do to ensure you’re getting enough of this essential fatty acid. This groundbreaking discovery could change how we think about nutrition and longevity. The Gut-Brain Connection: Why Your Mental Health Starts in the Microbiome

The connection between mental health and metabolic health is far deeper than once believed, with growing evidence showing a powerful, bidirectional relationship. Inflammation, poor diet, and gut dysfunction are now recognized as key drivers of both physical and psychological illness—often hiding in plain sight. By addressing root causes such as blood sugar imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, and microbiome disruption, many chronic mental health conditions can improve or even resolve. This emerging science challenges the traditional separation of mind and body, pointing instead to an integrated approach where healing the body becomes essential for healing the brain. Recognizing this link is crucial in shifting the future of mental health care. In this episode, I discuss, along with Dr. Chris Palmer and Dr. Shebani Sethi, why our diet is so closely related to the state of our mental health. Dr. Chris Palmer is a psychiatrist and researcher working at the interface of metabolism and mental health. He is the Director of the Department of Postgraduate and Continuing Education at McLean Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. For over 25 years, he has held leadership roles in psychiatric education, conducted research, and worked with people who have treatment-resistant mental illnesses. He has been pioneering the use of the medical ketogenic diet in the treatment of psychiatric disorders - conducting research in this area, treating patients, writing, and speaking around the world on this topic. More broadly, he is interested in the roles of metabolism and metabolic interventions on brain health. Dr. Shebani Sethi is a double board-certified physician in Obesity Medicine and Psychiatry. She is the Founding Director of Stanford University’s Metabolic Psychiatry program and Silicon Valley Metabolic Psychiatry, a new center in the San Francisco Bay Area focused on optimizing brain health by integrating low carb nutrition, comprehensiv...

The Dirty Truth About Environmental Toxins (And How to Protect Yourself)

The pervasive presence of microplastics and environmental toxins in our daily lives poses a growing threat to human health, with impacts ranging from hormonal disruption and metabolic dysfunction to immune system compromise and chronic inflammation. These contaminants, found in food packaging, water supplies, personal care products, and even the air we breathe, accumulate in the body and contribute to the rise in chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune conditions. Understanding their far-reaching effects is essential, but the good news is that the body has powerful detoxification mechanisms that, when properly supported through dietary choices, lifestyle adjustments, and targeted supplementation, can help mitigate their damage. In this episode, I discuss, along with toxin-expert Dr. Joseph Pizzorno, why we need to take action to reduce toxin exposures, reverse existing damage, and build a foundation for long-term well-being. Dr. Joseph Pizzorno is a transformational leader in medicine. Through half a century of work, he has helped establish and advance the academic, scientific, and clinical protocols for natural, functional, integrative, and environmental medicine. As founding president of Bastyr University in 1978, he coined the term “science-based natural medicine” and led Bastyr to become the first-ever accredited institution in the field. He has set worldwide standards of practice by authoring or co-authoring six textbooks for doctors, including the Textbook of Natural Medicine (over 100,000 copies in 4 languages across 5 editions) and Clinical Environmental Medicine. He is Editor-in-Chief of PubMed-indexed IMCJ—the most widely read, peer-reviewed journal in the field (25,000 copies each issue). He is a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Functional Medicine, where he served three terms as Chair. The Health Conspiracy No One Talks About: Life Insurance, Big Data & Aging | Gary Brecka

What if I told you life insurance companies can predict, almost to the month, when you’re going to die? That’s exactly what Gary Brecka, a human biologist and former mortality expert, used to do—until he uncovered something shocking. After years of analyzing blood work and medical records, he realized that the biggest predictors of disease and early death aren’t genetic—they’re modifiable. Now, he’s using that knowledge to help people optimize their health and extend their lifespan. In this episode of The Dr. Hyman Show, we discuss: How insurance companies use hidden health data to predict life expectancy with stunning accuracy. The biggest factors that shorten lifespan—and why most of them are within our control. Why vitamin deficiencies, especially vitamin D, are quietly fueling chronic disease. How the right biohacking tools, like red light therapy and oxygen optimization, can reverse aging. What you can do today to take control of your health and longevity. Toxic Food & Hidden Chemicals Are Everywhere: Here's What You Can Do

Our immune system operates like a finely tuned symphony, yet many of us find ourselves out of harmony, vulnerable to persistent infections, autoimmune conditions, and chronic disease. Rather than merely suppressing symptoms, a Functional Medicine approach seeks to identify and address the underlying disruptions driving immune imbalance. Central to this dysfunction is compromised gut health, which undermines immune regulation, while mitochondrial impairment and chronic inflammation further erode the body's capacity for resilience and repair. By restoring balance at the root level, we can cultivate a more robust and adaptive immune system. In this episode, I discuss, along with Dr. Elroy Vojdani and Dr. Leonard Calabrese, how cleaning up our diets, improving gut health, removing toxins, and decreasing stress can do wonders for our immune systems. Dr. Elroy Vojdani is a pioneer in the field of functional medicine and research and is the founder of Regenera Medical, a concierge functional medicine practice in Los Angeles, California. He graduated from USC Keck School of Medicine, is a certified Institute for Functional Medicine Practitioner. Dr. Vojdani has conducted medical scientific research for decades with more than 25 publications in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He is also world-renowned for his research and development of state-of-the-art lab testing in the field of immunology. He recently authored a book entitled “When Food Bites Back” which discusses the role of food immune reactions in the development of autoimmune disease. Dr. Leonard Calabrese, is an expert in immunology and rheumatology. In fact, he is a Professor of Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University and Vice Chair of the Department of Rheumatic and Immunologic Diseases. America’s Obesity Crisis: Is Ozempic a Cure or a Cover-Up? | Calley Means and Tyna Moore

The rise in obesity and chronic disease over the years is alarming. Rather than genetics, it can be attributed to environmental and dietary changes, emphasizing the role of food quality over quantity. And while GLP-1 agonists like Ozempic may show some promise in addressing metabolic dysfunction, concerns about long-term effects, muscle loss, and cost highlight the need for a more nuanced approach. Ultimately, a holistic strategy that includes diet, lifestyle, and personalized interventions is essential for sustainable health improvements. In this episode I discuss, along with Dr. Tyna Moore and Calley Means, the complexity of obesity, moving beyond the simplistic "calories in, calories out" model to focus on factors like insulin resistance, ultra-processed foods, and metabolic dysfunction. America’s Food Supply Is Rigged—Here’s How to Opt Out | Vani Hari & Dr. Shebani Sethi

Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) are identified as the leading cause of preventable death globally. These foods are chemically altered, stripped of their natural structures, and filled with additives, sugars, unhealthy fats, and preservatives, resulting in products that offer little to no nutritional benefit while contributing significantly to chronic disease. In this episode, I talk with Vani Hari and Dr. Shebani Sethi about why ultra-processed foods are not just a health risk—they are a public health crisis. Vani Hari is the food activist behind FoodBabe.com, a NY Times best-selling author of 4 books, founder of the organic products brand Truvani, and was named one of the “Most Influential People on the Internet” by Time magazine. Hari’s viral testimony before the US Senate sparked a massive movement to stop American food companies from poisoning their own citizens with ingredients they don’t use in other countries. Hari founded Food Babe to spread information about what is really in the American food supply. She teaches people how to make the right purchasing decisions at the grocery store, how to live an organic lifestyle, and how to travel healthfully around the world. Vani has gathered hundreds of thousands of petitions to change the food system and influenced how major food giants like Kraft, Subway, Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, and Starbucks create their products, steering them towards more healthful policies. The Industry Secret Keeping You Inflamed, Tired, & Bloated | Nina Teicholz & Max Lugavere

Highly processed vegetable oils, derived from seeds and beans, have become a dominant part of modern diets despite significant health concerns. Historical biases in nutrition science, influenced by the vegetable oil industry, have promoted these oils despite evidence from controlled studies showing negative health outcomes. These oils are unstable, prone to oxidation, and can create toxic byproducts, particularly when exposed to heat, contributing to inflammation and chronic diseases. Although they can lower LDL cholesterol, studies have shown that this reduction does not necessarily improve heart health and may increase risks for other conditions like cancer. In contrast, traditional fats like extra virgin olive oil and omega-3-rich foods offer more stability and health benefits, emphasizing the need for a balanced, minimally processed approach to dietary fats. In this episode, I talk with Nina Teicholz and Max Lugavere to explore the health impacts of different types of fats and oils, debunking misconceptions around cooking with extra virgin olive oil and emphasizing the dangers of industrial vegetable oils. Nina Teicholz is a science journalist and author of the New York Times bestseller, The Big Fat Surprise, which upended the conventional wisdom on dietary fat—especially saturated fat—and spurred a new conversation about whether these fats in fact cause heart disease. She is also the founder of the Nutrition Coalition, a non-profit working to ensure that government nutrition policy is transparent and evidence-based—work for which she’s been asked to testify before the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Senate. Max Lugavere is a health and science journalist and the author of the New York Times best-seller Genius Foods: Become Smarter, Happier, and More Productive While Protecting Your Brain for Life, now published in 10 languages around the globe. Encore: Why Our Current Healthcare System Keeps Us Sick And How To Fix It

Heart disease, cancer, and stroke are the leading causes of death—and premature death at that—in the US. These diseases all have several risk factors in common, like smoking, physical inactivity, and poor diet, which policy often views simply as personal choices. We need to begin looking at disease prevention beyond individual decision-making. In this podcast, I talk with Dr. Anand Parekh, Senator Bill Frist, and Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian on the need for government policymakers to address disease prevention. Dr. Anand Parekh is the Bipartisan Policy Center’s chief medical advisor, providing clinical and public health expertise across the organization, particularly in the areas of aging, prevention, and global health. As a US Department of Health and Human Services deputy assistant secretary for health from 2008 to 2015, he developed and implemented national initiatives focused on prevention, wellness, and care management. He is the author of Prevention First: Policymaking for a Healthier America. Senator Bill Frist is a heart and lung transplant surgeon and former US Senate majority leader. He led passage of the 2003 Medicare Modernization Act and the historic PEPFAR HIV/AIDS legislation that has saved millions of lives worldwide. As the founder and director of the Vanderbilt Multi-Organ Transplant Center, he has performed over 150 heart and lung transplants, authored over 100 peer-reviewed medical articles, and published seven books. Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian is a cardiologist, Dean and Jean Mayer Professor at the Tufts Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, and professor of medicine at Tufts Medical School. He has authored more than 400 scientific publications on dietary priorities for obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases and on evidence-based policy approaches to reduce these burdens in the US and globally. He has served in numerous advisory roles, including for the US and Canadian governments.⁣⁣ ⁣ View Show Notes From This Episode Get Free Wee...

Encore: Food: The Root Causes of Our Healthcare, Economic and Social Crises with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

You’ve probably heard a lot about Robert F. Kennedy Jr., but beyond social media sound bites, do you really know where he stands on the issues shaping America’s health? Recorded last year when Kennedy was a presidential candidate, this episode of The Dr. Hyman Show provides a deep dive into his vision for improving the well-being of Americans. A vision Kennedy could put into action if confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services. Kennedy is the founder of the Waterkeeper Alliance, the world’s largest clean water advocacy group, and served as its longtime chairman and attorney. He also founded the Children’s Health Defense and led efforts to address chronic disease and toxic exposures. As a litigator, he was part of the team that successfully prosecuted Monsanto for glyphosate’s link to cancer. Tune in to explore Kennedy’s stance on tackling chronic disease, promoting regenerative farming, and improving the quality of the water we drink and the air we breathe. In this episode, we discuss (audio version / Apple Subscriber version): The state of health in America (5:41 / 4:01) One of the main reasons RFK Jr. decided to run for president (8:39 / 6:59) The beginning of the autism epidemic (12:38 / 10:58) Addressing harms caused by ultra-processed food (15:03 / 13:23) Eliminating corporate culture in government agencies (33:05 / 28:41) America’s disproportionate deaths from COVID-19 (42:10 / 37:46) How America’s health status is affecting our national security (44:34 / 40:10) Solving the mental health crisis (47:41 / 43:17) Food and drug TV marketing (56:14 / 51:49) RFK’s thinking about fitness for himself and America (1:03:39 / 59:14) View Show Notes From This Episode Get Free Weekly Health Tips from Dr. Hyman Sign Up for Dr. Hyman’s Weekly Longevity Journal This episode is brought to you by Big Bold Health, Paleovalley, Fatty15, AirDoctor, and Seed. Encore: The Dark Side of The Food Industry: How The Standard Diet Is Making Us Sick & Fat

Food has become a more complex part of our lives than ever before. Much of what we think is food is actually many ingredients disguised as food, with entirely different, often negative impacts on the human body. Sadly, this is a greater problem here in the US than in other parts of the world, thanks to the food industry, corrupt intentions, and broken policies. Today, I talk about all this and more with my guest Jason Karp, whose personal experience of nearly going blind due to a toxic lifestyle led him to discover a different way; he made it his mission to get “back to human.” In this episode, we discuss: Jason’s personal health journey and why that has prompted him to take on the campaign against Kellogg’s (7:53) The unhealthy state of America’s food industry (22:42) How Kellogg’s has one cereal formulation for Canada and another for the US that is full of chemicals (26:07) The correlation between food dyes and ADHD, and the failure of Kellogg's pledge (29:04) The political aspect of food regulation and dangers of unregulated food additives (32:55) Why we are in a state of metacrisis and what that means for our future (37:18) The bidirectional relationship between food and mental health (46:04) The financial burden of healthcare on the US government due to unhealthy diets (53:52) Supporting the Kellogg's Initiative: Sign the Petition (1:06:03) We have a lot to do to shift our food system and eliminate harmful ingredients in the US, but there are ways to enact positive change starting today. We can all support a cleaner food industry and better health by voting with our dollar, purchasing real food, and getting involved in policy policy changes. I hope you’ll listen to this episode to learn more. Encore: The Shocking Truth About Ozempic & The Effects It Has On The Body | Calley Means & Dr. Tyna Moore

Like most things in life, when it comes to optimizing metabolic health, a nuanced perspective can help. Rather than viewing it as a black-and-white issue, we can take into consideration the big-picture social context we’re facing that encourages ultra-processed foods, obesity, and lifelong medication as well as the micro-level of what people are experiencing as individuals and understanding how to help them when all else fails. Today I’m thrilled to sit down with Dr. Tyna Moore and Calley Means for a grounded discussion that explores both sides of the spectrum, and everything in between. In this episode, we discuss: The controversial discussion of GLP-1 agonists like Ozempic, weighing the pros and cons of these new drugs in treating obesity and metabolic crises (3:34) Challenging the notion of treating obesity with drugs like Ozempic (10:35) An unsettling revelation about the push for using Ozempic in children (12:04) Digging deeper into GLP-1 research and some of the benefits (32:51) Why are children being born metabolically challenged? (41:11) Dr. Moore’s approach to using peptides with her patients and for her own crippling pain, and what they’ve seen (45:19) How our current healthcare system lacks policies and support for behavior change (1:27) While there are always differing views, we know for sure that our food and drug policies aren’t serving the best interests of creating sustainable, empowered health for the masses.
