The Manhattan Project

On this episode, the first in Season 9, we get stuck into the vast and sprawling history of The Manhattan Project and the creation of the atomic bomb. The creation and utilisation of such an unbelievably powerful weapon changed the dynamics of power globally and the results are still being felt today. The Manhattan Project was a WWII initiative which brought together the most brilliant of minds to conceptualise and then develop a weapon formidable enough to compel the Axis powers to capitulate. Spearheaded by the now infamous J. Robert Oppenheimer and his macho military counterpart General Leslie Groves, the project mobilised an extensive team of globally reknowned physicists at a secret encampment in New Mexico called Los Alamos. There they collaborated on their own theories and advanced human knowledge leaps and bounds in such a short time; focussing primarily on the new school of their craft, quantum physics and then more practically the design and production of weapons-grade nuclear materials and a mean by which to blow them up! All this was being done amidst fears of Nazi Germany's parallel efforts, the Allied forces hastened to pioneer this groundbreaking technology and have it ready to fire before the lads got their shot off somewhere. Unfortunately for the more trigger happy of the US military elite, Germany's surrender before the bomb was battle-ready meant that the remaining Japanese Imperial forces faced the consequences, with Hiroshima and Nagasaki suffering atomic attacks in August 1945. These bombings, which abruptly ended the war after years of massive conventional bombardments, underscored the terrifying potency of nuclear arms and marked the apex of scientific ingenuity yielding the most destructive force known to humanity. Charlie Manson: Revisited

On this episode we talk about one of the most notorious men in modern history; a dude whose simple and crazy face is synonymous with manipulation, mind control and murder; whose idea of family will have you thinking twice about complaining about going home for thanksgiving this year; this time we are chatting about the one and only Charlie Manson. This is a revisited episode on this topic with about 10 years in between; I wanted to give the fantastic source material a fresh outlook and using my more modernised and thorough process and higher quality treatment in the new TCG regime. Not only that but new revelations in the case itself; new media, documentaries and information about Charlie and his family members; recent prisoner releases and even a new book called Chaos written by Tom O'Neill have been released in the mean time. We discuss Charlies rotten upbringing and his almost ubiquitous incarceration up until the age of 20 for various crimes and the psychological toll this must have taken on his psyche. This semi-permanent incarceration would also give ample opportunity to practice his innate and effective ability for persuasion and manipulation; as well as condition him to do 'what ever it takes' to get the job done. Charlie was a cultural figurehead of the 1960s hippy movement, and some say he was the bell that rang out in its last dying days to signal the end of the Free Love era. His notorious family, which at one time included famous rock stars and celebrities, were a raggle taggle gaggle of drug addled ne'erdowells whom Charlie gathered up through emotional manipulation. This crowd of crusties eventually became responsible for the deaths of 9 people in a murder spree that shook the US and Hollywood elite in particular. The Salem Witch Trials

DEEP DIVE - On this episode we discuss one of histories most enduring mysteries where accusations flew and farcical trials condemned many young women to death in the name of religious purity which was disguising political subterfuge and using fear of the unknown as a tool of control; this one is all about The Salem Witch Trials. In 17th Century Massachusetts newly settled puritans began a campaign of accusations against potential witches in their community. Largely led by the testimonies of young girls against other young girls, this crusade against the forces of darkness was a thinly veiled attempt to gain control of a newly emerging civilisation in a new country. There are many theories as to why the girls acted as they did, and mass psychosis and even hallucinogenic poisoning are cited as the cause of these frivolous and deadly claims. Randy Kraft - The Scorecard Killer

On this episode we talk about one of the most prolific and brutal killers in US history and a guy who got his moniker The Scorecard Killer from a macabre list of nicknames he had for his many victims; this episode is all about Randy Kraft. Joining me on this episode is comedian Ger Staunton; international comedy powerhouse and fellow Mayo man :) Ger and I discuss these heinous crimes and what drives someone to commit such horrific sexual attacks on so many young men. Kraft operated in the prolific serial killer atmosphere of the 70s and 80s where it seemed all bets were off for catching murderers. There is estimates of up to 70 victims that Kraft cruelly dispatched but he was only found guilty for very few of these; and we discuss the ones we know about here. Michael Barrymore

On this episode we discuss one of the most famous and contentious true crime cases this century; the death of Stuart Lubbock. Now this case is still unsolved and in the UK and Ireland it was a huge deal and was covered incessantly by the news and tabloid media because of the association with celebrity tv personality and comedian Michael Barrymore. Lubbock died in the swimming pool of Barrymore's house after a drink and drug fuelled night out in the local nightclub but, as yet, the killer or killers havn't been brought to justice. The nature of Stuart's death has led the public to believe (with the help of the ghoulish reporting of the tabloids) that this was some sort of gay orgy gone wrong or some other sort of violent sexual death. The injuries Stuart Lubbock sustained were severe and undeniably sexual in nature but the focus was not really on finding actual justice for Stuart; it was on Michael Barrymore himself and it was front page news for weeks, months and years. Michael Barrymore shocked a fairly conservative nation when he came out in 1995 and was, for the most part, loved and adored for who he was and for his wonderful ability to entertain rather than his sexual orientation. His career skyrocketed and he had the highest watched TV shows in the country. This gay lifestyle and the unconscious bias and uninformed rumour of LGBT sexual practice among the wider members of society at the time was then used against him in the salacious and macabre reporting of Stuart Lubbock's death by TV and Newspapers. Even after all this reporting and attention, The Lubbock family still seek justice and Terry, Stuart's father, took up a very public campaign, against Barrymore personally, to find answers about his sons death. Pizzagate

On this episode we talk about one of the most contentious and censoriously restricted topics on the internet; admittedly on an extremely dark subject with many many potentially litigiously vulnerable points but something that has been misinterpreted, covered up and in a real sense, the true factual details forgotten about online; this one is all about Pizzagate. From the Podesta email leak and Anthony Weiners laptop showing Hillary up to be a bold pup; to a popular internet generated rumour of a blood drinking death cult and a lad driving hundreds of miles to shoot up a pizza place because of someones instagram content; this episode is pretty wild to be honest! There is so much stuff about Pizzagate that can be dismissed an noncesense and yet, so much of it is observable and real, but wholly ignored by mainstream media and disavowed and not believed by the general public. This episode is about the Pizzagate incident itself and the build up and immediate aftermath so no real chat about Epstein or even the newly popular Balenciaga scandal, but I hope this to be the full and frank account of what happened and what was exposed in those weird few months before and just after the 2016 election when it came to top level elites being accused of child endangerment (and the rest!) The Menendez Brothers

TRUE CRIME - On this episode we discuss a harrowing case of abuse and revenge; two brothers who killed their parents in a brutal and meticulously premeditated manner were paraded across the mainstream media as cold hearted killers. During the televised case however, the extent of the sexual and psychological abuse they suffered was described in sickening detail and the motivations for their actions became that much more murkily motivated. This time we are talking about The Menendez Brothers. Raised in an affluent California family, Lyle and Erik Menendez were what some would call privileged; but their upbringing was anything but idyllic. Their father Jose and mother Kitty were successful but cruel, and the very thing that made the brothers a success was the thing they despised. Verbal and psychical abuse was meeted out on them from both parents and when they finally snapped and killed them both in a shotgun bloodbath, the world looked on with disgust. Lawyer Leslie Abramson, who advocated for the boys in court during their lengthy televised trial, was visibly appalled and angered at the abuse they suffered. This 1993/1994 trial called more witnesses than any other murder trial in history and ended up with no satisfying solution; going to another trial which led to the conviction of the two brothers who still reside in prison. Rasputin and The Romanovs

On this episode we discuss one of the most maligned and mysterious figures from modern history; a man who is as famous for his death as for his life, and someone like him would put the willies up anyone in power because he was an uncontrollable and unpredictable force; this episode is all about Rasputin. Shambling into St Petersburg from the Siberian countryside in the early days of the 20th century; is how most people would view the tale of Rasputin; but the truth is often stranger. As part of a campaign of popularity and spectacle in a turn of the century royal socialite influencer class, Rasputin was invited to the royal court as part of some sort of esoteric oddity and was so charming he managed to become one of the Tsarinas closest advisors. Rasputins massive shlong and love making prowess is also part of the legend and this, along with his unroyal blood made the movers and shakers in Romanov controlled Russia quite nervous. Rasputin was rumoured to be utterly debauched and his strange unkempt appearance, his uncouth charm and his loose morals meant that he was a threat to the status quo. The legendary tale of the assassination of Rasputin probably over shadows anything he did in life and is itself wrought with rumour and inconsistency. The Keepers - The Death of Cathy Cesnik

On this episode the wonderful Claire joins me to talk about the horrible case of the death of Cathy Cesnik and the abuse that Fr Joseph Maskell doled out on the girls of Keough High School in Baltimore as detailed in the Netflix documentary series The Keepers. This is a rough one and we dive deep into the personalities involved including the two investigators Abbie Schaub and Gemma Hoskins who hounded law enforcement for documents pertaining to the case as well as doing emotionally harrowing interviews with some of the women involved. We also meet Jean Werner and Teresa Lancaster who were the original accusers of Maskell. We also meet Gerry Koob and a host of other weird and inexplicably uninformed characters as we try to unravel the details of the case. Cathy's body was found in the first days of 1970 and it sparked an investigation into the cruel and methodical abuse that Maskell was a ring leader of, in Keough High School among other spots all around Baltimore in the 1960s. Operation Mockingbird

Chris Watts

On this episode we discuss this horrible human being, Chris Watts, and his cowardly and brutal murder of his wife and two young kids with super-guest: comedy powerhouse and the undisputed heavy weight champion of the comedic arts Colin Geddis. The discussions and opinions on this episode will definitely be controversial as we try to understand the motivations behind such a crime; we also look deeper into the famous documentary American Murder: The Family Next Door and discuss all the info that was conveniently left out of it. This guy is a POS, no doubt; but the circumstances around this crime shocked so many because it was so surprising to all who knew the Watts Family. Underlying issues plagued this couple including money, toxic family ties and infidelity all played a part in this very very sad case. Israel Keyes

On this episode comedian Tom O'Mahony joins me to talk about one of the best kept secrets in modern True Crime; the man with a thousand murder buckets and an unpredictable and seemingly uncontainable serial scourge on the entirety of the US; Israel Keyes. Growing up as a Mormon in a massive family can mess with the best of us but Israel took it that step further and his cultish childhood led to a deeply troubled adolescence with gangs of killer criminals as close friends and ideation of terrorist and brutal racist crimes all through his teenage years. Israel was most famous for his 'Murder Kits' which were buried boxes or buckets filled with lethal paraphernalia to commit his crimes. He travelled too; like, a lot! Originally from Alaska he flew into US cities for work and would drive thousands of miles in short periods of time to throw law enforcement off the scent. His final sloppy crimes and his interviews, dripping with yearning for infamy, have made him a wee bit famous but, as I see it, not as famous as he should be for a serial killer who has been in operation in just the last 20 years! Barry Seal and The CIA Enterprise

On this episode we talk about one of the most dramatically interconnected men in conspiracy lore; a man who had more fingers in more pies than Mr Kipling and who was responsible for more rock than Dwayne Johnson. The king of cocaine and the reason anyone had something to toot throughout the 70s and 80s in America; this episode we are talking about Barry Seal. You may have heard of Barry from the 2017 Tom Cruise movie 'American Made'; but he is much more than some haphazard drug mule that was coopted by the CIA for nefarious black ops; he was a tour de force as an aviator and, so it transpired, as an international arms and drugs dealer. He dealt with the top tier of both sides from Pablo Escobar to George HW Bush and operated at a level where Presidents and State Governors knew him by name (and even got him off a few crimes now and then) His ultimately death is still a mystery; like, we know who shot him but the real question is WHY? Barry was so deep into so many dark corners of what we now call the Deep State operations and was a cash cow with the cocaine and arms dealing that he probably has a dossier as tall as the twin towers on all the movers and shakers behind the scenes. Dean Corll - The Candyman

On this episode we talk about the man who made parents everywhere afraid that a man in a van will come and take away your children; Texas Serial killer, child murderer and all round very bad man, Dean Corll. Killer of up to (and probably more than) 28 young men Dean Corll was the scourge of Heuston Heights in Texas and was so cruel in his murders that the moniker of Candy Man was given to him. Using what was known as 'The Murder Board' Dean tortured, molested and killed these lads between the ages of 13 and 20 in the late 60s and early 70s. With two willing accomplices, both very young men themselves, Elmer Wayne Henley and David Brooks; Dean would kill and then almost openly bury their bodies in holes he was seen digging for almost his entire adolescence. Nora Koppel - The Hinterkaifek Murders

On this episode I interview Nora Koppel, daughter of Hinterkaifek expert Adolf Koppel, all about the facts of the case as proven by the investigations of her father. Dolf wrote the book Lerchenstimme (The Lark's Song) and book in German about The Hinterkaifek Murders and he claims to have proof of what happened to the Gruber Family on those fateful days 100 years ago at Hinterkaifek. Dolf recreated weapons, made moulds of wounds and combed through the 100 year old evidence to bring this case back to life and try to get it solved. We already went through the details of this case a while back; but this new set of information and the 100 year anniversary makes it a lovely revisit with Nora. The Murder of Mark Kilroy

On this episode we talk about one of the darkest and torture laden murders that has ever graced the mics at TCG Towers; this episode is the gory tale of a satanic drug dealing cults inhuman efforts to kidnap, torture, and then gruesomely murder American tourist Mark Kilroy. Dark, this one gets dark! Mark Kilroy was a catholic student who went to Texas State and one Spring Break went to Brownsville with a small stop over the border in Matamoros. This was the last trip for Mark as he was snatched up by the gang of Adolfo Costanzo; a cult leader and dark religious practitioner. They performed sick and twisted rituals on Mark until his death and then led the authorities on chase which ended in a siege. Crazy stuff in this one; and joining me on the morose but still somehow hilarious journey is comedian Stephen Bradley. Stephen is one of the founders of MOB Theatre Dublin and is a fantastic improviser, writer, comedian and lovely man. Robert Berchtold

On this episode comedian Ailish McCarthy joins me to discuss the case made famous by the documentary 'Abducted in Plain Sight' and one of the most egregious cases of manipulation that you can find; the case of Robert Berchtold and Jan Broberg. Infiltrating and then sexually intoxicating a whole family of Mormons called The Brobergs, Berchtold was able to wrestle away the control of their daughter Jan and end up co-habiting with the family as he continued his deep psychological control campaign. David Koresh and The Waco Massacre

DEEP DIVE - On this episode we talk about an event that arguably changed America forever; destroyed the perceptions of law enforcement for anyone that witnessed this event on mainstream media; and irredeemably erased at least some of the faith that Americans held dearly when it came to constitutionally held aspects of the US culture like freedom and security; this time we are talking about David Koresh and The Waco Massacre. In 1993 in Waco Texas the ATF and FBI initiated a sting on a Branch Davidian compound which resulted in a fire fight and a 51 day siege which ultimately led to the deaths of the 79 members of the so-called cult and their leader David Koresh. Investigations into the ethics and execution of these government agency order went on all through the 90s at a congressional level, but these agencies never saw justice. Koresh and his followers were killed by the US Government; this was on suspicion of child abuse, drug production and illegal arms sale and stockpiling. Dennis Nilsen

TRUE CRIME - On this episode Tom O Mahony joins me to chat about one sick pup; known as the Kindly Killer and one of the creepiest the UK can produce, Dennis Nilsen; a former policeman and army private, murdered an unknown amount of young men in his London homes in the 70s and 80s. Nilsen is thought to have killed up to twenty homeless and homosexual men after luring them to his various apartments, killing them and burying the bodies under floorboards.It was also discovered that Dennis Nilsen was partially a cannibal and he kept the dead bodies of his victims as 'company'. Nilsen is renowned for being one of the weirdest killers on any true crime list because his peccadillo was talcing the dead men and watching TV with them, and then eventually boiling their bodies and flushing them down the toilet; which became his eventual undoing.The reason we know so much about Nilsen, his methods and his motivation is because he was more than forthcoming with the information in interviews after his arrest. How much of this can be believed is up to you; but the detail he goes into is reminiscent of other famous murderers. The Port Arthur Massacre

TRUE CRIME - On this episode we talk about the catalyst for disarming the Australian population and an event that was so destructive to society at the time; it is used as the yard stick to measure the severity of all mass shootings until just very recently; this time we are talking about Martin Bryant and The Port Arthur Massacre. Port Arthur was a mass shooting perpetrated by one Martin Bryant in April 1996 where 25 people were wounded and 35 people killed at the hands of Bryant and a variety of firearms and other methods. Bryant was a local oddball and a very wealthy man but was of 'diminished capacity' according to locals. A chequered upbringing and early life, mixed with some convenient accidents and suspicious deaths of wealthy close friends of Bryant's; paints a picture of a ruthless man who would kill to get what he wanted. But the truth is far from this simple and clean cut. Accusations abound of US and Israeli military personnel carrying out the shooting and the whole operation being a false flag in order to trigger the national disdain for guns and their supported abolition in Australia from the mid 90s onward. Oklahoma City Bombing

DEEP DIVE - On this episode we discuss one of the most devastating domestic terrorist attacks on American soil, The Oklahoma City Bombing; the story of which involved white supremacist militia, secret government agents, ex-military operatives, and of course the deaths of 168 people. On 19th April 1995 a truck exploded in front of the Alfred P Murrah Building and killed 168 people and injured almost 700 more. This huge explosion caused over $650 million damage and was apparently set up and set off by the now infamous Timothy McVeigh.Arrested away from the scene for a dodgy license plate; McVeigh became the main culprit and was paraded through network news shows as a vicious anti-government militia member with ties to white supremacy organisations. These militia movements and incidents involving them in the 90s; including the like of Waco and Ruby Ridge, were becoming almost commonplace in the modern news media. McVeigh was an ex-military operative and apparently worked on some special operations in special forces units in his time there. Ed Kemper

TRUE CRIME - On this episode we talk about a behemoth of a man and one of the most famous serial killers ever; main subject in the TV series Mindhunter and known as The Co-Ed Killer, Ed Kemper. As with most of these cases Ed had a shoddy upbringing and was brought up in a single parent abusive home. His murderous predilections started to show early as he killed pets and small animals. This very troubled man became one of the most well known killers in the world; not least because of his gruesome technique and the manipulation of the bodies of his victims after death. Arrested at just 25 he spent the rest of his life int he same prison as Charles Manson; where he still resides today aged 71.
